Burundi has agreed to accept migrants deported from the United States under President Donald Trump's hardline immigration policy, becoming part of a small group of African nations to accept so-called third-country deportees.

Nancy Ninette Mutoni, spokesperson for Burundi's President Évariste Ndayishimiye, announced the agreement on Tuesday. Burundi will only accept individuals who have not been accused of crime or terrorism links, according to Mutoni.

The announcement contained no information on the number of migrants Burundi expects to receive, when deportations might begin, or any financial arrangements between the countries.
